Grace and Courtesy is where Montessori education begins.

It is the foundation on which the classroom flows throughout the day, from the early morning greetings, to asking questions, and to even getting through disagreements with aplomb.

Grace is the child’s ability to use their will to show comfort and respect in themselves.

Courtesy is showing that same grace and respect toward others.

Here are some photos of the experiences we shared during this month:

We revisited the different ways we can greet each other and learned how to say them in Te Reo Māori.

What a busy month! Opportunities and possibilities. What’s next?

Grace and Courtesy is a necessary part of Montessori education, as it helps tamariki develop and refine the lifelong skills of communication and self-control.

With these important lessons, tamariki can better orient themselves in any environment, and feel confident about asking questions, and participating in society.

With this in mind, next month we will be focusing on Social Competency.

This includes, but is not limited too, respect for others, expressing our feelings to one another, sharing, learning to listen, and respect what is said as teachers monitor conversational skills, conflict resolution, patience and collaboration.
